About Us

We look forward to meeting you!

Salmon River
Mobile Veterinary Clinic

We - Drs. Amy and Jon Keehner - started Salmon River Mobile Veterinary Clinic to make the latest, high-quality, and compassionate veterinary care available in the most beautiful part of the world: west-central Idaho. Dr. Amy hopes to share her passion for diagnostics, animal medicine, and healing animals with everyone in the community. Having traveled extensively, our home located between Riggins and New Meadows has always been a steadfast haven for us to return to, invariably knowing that we would eventually settle in this area permanently.

Meet Our Team

Dr. Amy, Veterinarian

Amy grew up on a small ranch and farm in Emmett, Idaho. Her father shared his love for horses with her, and Amy helped her mother and brothers tending to their small farm. She has a BS from the University of Idaho in Wildlife Resources, an MS from the University of Idaho in Animal Science, and her DVM from the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. She completed her clinical rotations at the Oregon State University School of Veterinary Medicine.

Amy began her career in the veterinary field as a kennel technician, moved up to veterinary technician’s assistant in college, and eventually became a veterinary technician while she worked her way through grad school. In 2015, she went to veterinary school. While attending the University of Idaho, she volunteered to work on a mountain lion research project in northeast Washington. There, she met Dr. Jon. They have now been married for over 10 years.

Dr. Amy’s passion is providing top veterinary care on an individualized basis and developing close relationships with her patients and clients. Some of her hobbies include hiking, exploring, traveling, going on long road trips, crocheting, and curling up with a good book.

Dr. Jon, PhD

Dr. Jon is a research scientist, not a veterinarian. His great-great-grandparents settled in north Idaho in the late 19th century, but he grew up in the Seattle area. He has a BS from the University of Idaho in Wildlife Resources and his MS and Ph.D. from Washington State University. Dr. Jon studied mountain lion predation in northeast Washington, and that is where he and Dr. Amy met.

He is currently collaborating with the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on the St. Kitts White-Tailed Deer Project. He is the co-founder of the project, which seeks to conserve a small population of white-tailed deer on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts. His research is published in peer-reviewed journals.

In his spare time, Dr. Jon enjoys spending time outdoors. He loves hiking and exploring west-central Idaho. He is also involved with sporting dogs and shooting sports and is a member of the Salmon River Gun Club. He also writes true crime and historical fiction books. Dr. Jon has three grown sons, Zachary, Tristen, and Cole, and a new granddaughter! His oldest son, Zachary, wife Brittnie, and daughter Destinie reside in New Meadows. Tristen is in the United States Coast Guard stationed along the north Atlantic in Massachusetts and Cole is in the United States Army stationed at Ft. Benning after returning from a recent deployment to Iraq.
