Puppy and Kitten Parasite Control

We're here to help you start your new pet off on the right paw
Nearly all puppies and kittens are born with internal parasites or “worms”.
This is due to the spread of parasites from mom to baby trans-placentally (through the placenta) and trans-mammary (through the mother’s milk). These worms are called nematodes and consist primarily of roundworms, whipworms, and hookworms. At Salmon River Mobile Veterinary Clinic, we provide puppy and kitten parasite control in New Meadows and the surrounding areas and are here to help you start your new pet off on the right paw in life.

What to Expect

Your puppy or kitten will be given a dewormer during their first appointment with us. We will usually give you a second dose to administer to your new pet in two weeks. Regular deworming is highly recommended as your new companion grows and throughout adulthood.

Tapeworms are another common intestinal parasite. They are spread primarily through flea bites, but they can also be picked up by ingesting infected rodents or wildlife. Internal parasite life cycles can be confusing, and pets can often shed eggs for long periods of time. Ensuring feces is picked up regularly from your yard or containment area can reduce the parasite load your pet is exposed to and help prevent spread.
